Micellar Casein is 100% Casein (rather than Whey) which is a main constituent of milk, making up almost 80% of the total protein content in cow’s milk.
Like whey protein, it is a highly bioavailable, amino acid rich protein – although the amino acid profiles varies considerably. This isn’t the only difference either - where whey protein is fast digesting in the gut, casein is a lot more viscous and for this reason, has a lot slower release.
This makes it perfect for a pre-bed supplement, which is where it’s most commonly used. Micellar Casein is produced using a low temperature, micro filtration process to ensure it is high in protein, low in carbs and fat. This high protein content will contribute to a growth and maintenance of muscle mass.
